The corn dog was invented in Rockaway Beach, Oregon by husband and wife team George and Versa Boyington in the late 1930s. The Boyington’s ran a small hot dog stand on the beach, selling the dogs to tourists and locals alike. When the rain came and ruined the buns, George Boyington came up with the idea of cooking a “bun” as needed. He created a pancake batter based mix and the duo came up with the formula still used today.

Awesome place to stop when you’re visiting the Oregon coast! We stopped here for 3 kiddie pups on our way from... Tillamook to Cannon Beach to say we had corn dogs from where they were invented. We typically just go with ketchup and mustard, but dipping the corndog in their fry sauce was excellent too. Very cool place!read more

I love Pronto Pup & have been visiting for the last 3 years as I travel the coast for work on a regular basis. I... usually order the kids pup (because the regular size is huge) and a cheese pup. I also love the fries & side of cheese sauce to dip them in. Everything is delicious and so budget friendly. Pronto Pup has new owners so I wanted to check it out recently. The biggest change is that they're now open more days and hours than the previous owners which is great!! They have done some nice improvements repainting, cleaning & everything looked fresh & tidy. They've also ordered some new shirts and cute stickers. I also noticed they have a daily special with a different type of sausage that you can have as a pronto pup.They also kept the vegetarian options like the pickle pup, cheese pup and vegetarian sausage pup.read more

Been wanting to go for years but finally did. Husband loved it. It was good just not as good as i think i hyped it up... to be in my head but it is so cool to know that they still use the traditional method. And it was cute that the wait staff still dressed in the attire. We tried a spicy pup which my husband was a big fan of. ( would have been more of a fan if the dog didn't have a hard skin) we also got a cheddar pup which was awesome. Can't wait to try the pepper jack pup. Historical location in regards to "battered dogs" but is the original better than the hand dipped corn dog.... Not... really. The pancake batter they used is not bad but I miss the corn batter of normal corn dogs. It is a texture and taste thing that the pancake batter can't match. The pronto pup is perfectly cooked and a they used tasty hotdogs, but give me a hand dipped corn dog anyday over these pancake batterers dogs.read more
