We were only in Rockaway for two nights and both nights we ate at Old Oregon Smoke House. The Halibut fish and chips... were so good we decided to come back and try some other things. The crab melt did not disappoint. I highly recommend eating here. Looking forward to making it back here.read more

Quaint fried fish and chowder spot. Always on point, and almost always busy. Well worth the wait. The menu fluctuates... with market prices and availability, so the menu can be a bit barren some times. However, there is always amazing fish and chips, as well as the best chowder around.My family and I have been frequenting this establishment for years and plan to continue doing so.read more

I visited this place based on the glowing reviews. I should have only bought the clam chowder, as it was really good. ... But I also bought the halibut basket, which was horrible. I'm pretty sure I was given cod, not halibut. It was super thin and dry, except for one piece that was thicker. I asked a worker if he was sure that was halibut and he said yes. I didn't even finish it, it was so horrible. And the fries weren't very good either. I will give props to the front counter guy as he was hustling to take orders and take them out to people. He seemed like the only person there interested in doing a good job. Everyone else looked disinterested.read more

Insanely oily cod, the popcorn shrimp were too heavily breaded. Tuna melt was one piece of bread, for 14+ dollars. It... was good, but not worth the price. The coleslaw was weirdly frothy. I'm giving it 3 stars because there was lots of seating and the chips were good.read more

This place is nostalgic for my us. We came here 5 years ago and had their halibut fish and chips. They are the best we... ever had and we are pleased to say that after 5 years the food is still fantastic! Way over priced. Fish and chips for $30 should be absolutely delicious; they were soggy with grease. We ended up... throwing them away. The crab cake was okay, but I've had much better in salt lake city, and for $24, it was outrageous. The clam chowder was good and the smoked salmon was yummy, that's the only reason I gave it a 2 star instead on 1.read more

Was really looking forward to eating here, but the intense fry oil vapor nearly made me leave. Simply ordering and... paying was enough to give my lungs a workout. I couldn't help but feel for the staff who are exposed all day long. Even my clothes wreaked of oil. The good news is, the halibut fish and chips was excellent. As was the crab sandwich. The chowder was a bit runny and the staff refunded everyone who ordered it, but I found it to be quite tasty. If they fix tje ventilation system, I would probably go back, but right now it's just too intense and can ruin an appetite.read more

Staying in Rockaway Beach, for the week. Decided to check this place out, because of the positive reviews. I ordered... the cod basket, the clam strip basket and a bowl of chowder. The chowder is solid! The fries, that came with both the baskets, were wonderfully crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside. The cod was perfectly breaded and cooked, but lacked the seasoning I prefer. The clam strips, were hands down, the best I’ve ever had. The service was fantastic, and they make sure to pack all the sauces you would need, in the to go bag. If I make it back to Rockaway Beach, I would definitely stop by again, get some clam strips and chowder, and maybe try out some of their other fare.read more

Good food, nice place to stop for a bite. Prices are way steep, so I'd only try it if you have some extra disposable... income. If not, other places serve equally good food for less. The crab cocktail is tasty, but essentially just crab in a styrofoam cup with basic cocktail sauce. The clam chowder is very tasty, but above average at best. The fish and chips were very good as well, but the batter could have been crispier.read more

While on vacation earlier this month, my son and I walked across the street to get some lunch. The corn dogs were... amazing. The batter was nice and crispy without that sweetness that the store bought corn dogs have. My son got the spicy sausage corn dog. He really enjoyed it. It was not enjoyable to me as it was just heat, I think it was cayenne, and masked the flavor of the sausage. The fries were hot and perfectly cooked. The hours are currently different then what was posted online.read more

It's a walk in, order, eat outside place.They have several picnic tables which are spaced nicely apart.They do not stand out from the street so you have to watch for them.They are on the left side of the street going South, next to the US Bank and across from the Chamber of Commerce.read more

In Rockaway on vacation. My wife and her brother went here for lunch. They came back and could not stop talking about... the place. They went back for lunch every day that week. After a week of their raving, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. This place is a gem.The food: honestly the best seafood I’ve ever had. I ordered the halibut basket ($21), and my husband ordered the popcorn shrimp and clam chowder. The shrimp was okay,... and the clam chowder was good. Unfortunately, my halibut was so disappointing. The fish itself was fresh and high-quality, but it was cut into super uneven-sized pieces and then fried to doneness for the one big thick piece. That means most of the fish was overcooked, making it super dry and tough. Such a shame to ruin good fish! The fries were also unevenly fried -- I've never seen a single fry be overcooked on one half (dark and oily) and undercooked on the other half (limp and flavorless) like the fries here. Judging from the pictures in other people's reviews, they are raising the prices here pretty frequently. I would be happy to pay $21 for this halibut prepared by a skilled fry cook, but that's not what we got today. I hope it was just an off day. Regardless, we won't be back.read more

Exceptional! I called in a takeout order for a party of twelve, forty-five minutes before closing. We ordered 5 Ă— 32... ounce clam chowder, 7 Ă— cod fish and chips + 1 crab melt. I was amazed when they told us our order would be ready in twenty minutes. Not only was it ready, but the food was piping hot and fresh. The chowder was thick and creamy. The cod was tasty and not greasy. One bite of the crab melt reeled me in. Five star food and five star customer service. We'll be back!read more

Above average fish and chips. Big plus for the fry not being overly greasy!!! Coleslaw is good but it had sweet. if... you enjoy your fries dipped in thousand Island you'll enjoy the fry sauce that comes with each basket. Smoked salmon was ok but would have preferred a bit more smoke. Only outdoor seating. Nice patio that is dog friendly. A few covered tables. Easy walk to the beach for picnic option.read more

Highly recommend! In a great location and nice rooms. If you are after a beach-front room, make sure to specify when... booking, because there are sections of the rooms that do not have a direct view, but are still in walking distance of beach access! Our room had a balcony deck, fire place, full kitchen with dishes and utensils, large fridge, and was very spacious. We will definitely stay here again!read more

First time here and ordered with my family. The wait time was fast and the portion sizes were pretty big. The fish had... light batter and wasn’t oily. The sauce that came for the fries was pretty good, I couldn’t tell what it was. The fish pieces were huge and was seasoned well. A bit pricier than you might expect from it's humble exterior, the Old Oregon Smokehouse serves up a respectable menu... of fried seafood for it's small size. They also happen to offer one of the best clam chowders I've ever eaten.Stop by sometime, pick up a chowder bowl and a lobster melt (not on the menu, but ask and you might get lucky), and make your day better.read more

The crab melt was fantastic (I won't deny that)! We also got the cod and chips and it was just meh. I've had many... better fish and chips. It was edible but it wasn't great. You also had to eat it with a fork. What bothered me most was that many of the cooking staff outside and people bringing the food out to people either were not wearing masks, were not wearing masks properly (noses out or were pulling them down to talk to a customer), or they were taking them on and off.read more

Great hole in the wall spot for fresh fried seafood.We got the Cod fish n chips, fried clams, popcorn shrimp, and... medium clam chowder to share between 2 of us; it was easily enough food for 3-4 people. Every fried item came with thick cut fries, coleslaw, and plenty of sauces.Line wasn't too bad for us, but we were there pretty late and some of the people in front of us were waiting almost an hour for their food. This has been pretty normal though, with most places closed or at capacity due to COVID.Definitely recommend.read more

Both the crab and lobster melts held true to their name as they melted in your mouth. The flavors were exquisite. The fries are fat, crunchy and perfectly salty. This place is an absolute gem. Not just for a beach town, but for all of Oregon . You would never know from looking at... the outside, but the food quality is on par with some of the best restaurants in Portland. You can tell on every dish that the chef pours his heart into it. Everything we have tried here is exquisite. The star for me is the calamari and the corner beef sandwich. Love the setting beautiful view just right off the sand.
