We aren’t kidding when we say that some things never change around here.
The first passenger train came to Rockaway Beach in 1912, and you can still enjoy a train ride to our little beach town thanks to the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad.
Prior to the railroad being built, it was a two-week journey by wagon from Portland to Rockaway Beach along the Wilson River Trail. It’s no wonder the steam train quickly became the main mode of transportation for families visiting the coast. Every Friday afternoon, mothers and their children waited eagerly for the “Daddy Train” that brought all the daddies who were joining their families for the weekend.
