The kids will be out of school before you know it and if you are looking for somewhere the whole family can go and be entertained, look no further than Rockaway Beach. With seven miles of beaches, you can spend your days letting the water lap your toes while the kids build sand castles or play in the surf.

While you’re here, try these other family-friendly ideas to keep the whole family entertained, and give them a Spring Break they’ll always remember.

  1. Take a ride on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad
The ever-popular steam-engine rides offered by the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad will return just in time for Spring Break, offering special one and a half hour excursions along the scenic Tillamook Bay and the Oregon Coast between Garibaldi and Rockaway Beach.
  2. Shop til you drop at Warehouse 10 Market
Warehouse 10 Market will be returning at the end of March, and have a special preview event happening on March 16th. Find more details on their Facebook page. They’re always hosting fun events, and will be open regular hours beginning in the spring.
  3. Go hiking through a Cedar Wetlands Preserve
Now getting to the giant Western Red Cedar is easier than ever. This fun hike starts on Hwy 101 just south of Rockaway Beach and takes a beautiful boardwalk through the wetlands, offering great views of the foliage and wildlife without getting your boots all muddy. You can choose to continue down the boardwalk to a nice picnic area, or take the plunge down a narrow foot trail that takes you deeper into the forest to the red cedar. Watch your step, as this trail can get slippery before the summer sun has a chance to dry it out, and requires stepping over roots and ducking under limbs.
  4. Grab an ice cream cone at Big Al’s
Everyone knows the big purple building right across from the Wayside, with even bigger personalities inside. It’s not a trip to Rockaway Beach without an #icecreamconeselfie in front of Big Al’s shop with the whole family.
  5. Ride the biggest corn dog in the world!
You read that right! The biggest pronto pup in the world not only lives in Rockaway Beach, it was actually invented here! (Read the whole story here.) So grab a classic hotdog on a stick, dipped in batter, and try your hand at riding an electronic pronto pup while you’re there. That’s one experience that no other vacation spot can provide.
